Necessary Price Increases

Running a pub in today’s economic climate is no easy feat. As a landlord and business owner, I’ve poured my heart and soul into creating a community hub where people of all ages can come together, socialise, and make lasting memories. However, after 13 months in the industry, I’m faced with the tough decision to increase prices. Here’s why this is necessary and how I plan to navigate this change while maintaining the vibrant, welcoming atmosphere you’ve come to love.

Why Price Increases Are Necessary

The pubs and entertainment industry is grappling with a multitude of rising costs. Government regulations, brewery price hikes, and brand increases have all contributed to the growing expenses. For instance, popular brands like Carling (Coors) have raised their prices across the board significantly over the past six months including Guinness who have made no secret about their immense price increase so far, with an increase of 10% each year for the next 3 years. Additionally, soaring gas and electricity bills, rent, cellar bills and huge increases which came with the national minimum wage hike have further strained our finances. Holding off on price increases was a priority for as long as possible, but to keep our doors open and ensure the viability of the business, this step is now essential.

Understanding Your Concerns

I understand that price increases are never welcome news. Some of you might be supportive and understanding, while others may feel disappointed or even decide to frequent other establishments. I want to assure you that this decision is not driven by greed but by necessity. My ultimate goal is to continue offering a safe, inviting, and exciting place for families, youngsters, and the older generation to come together. I don’t think anyone will understand how uncomfortable this decision has made me feel and how sorry I am to have to do it, when finances are so tight for many alike.

Communicating the Change

Transparency is key during this transition. I plan to utilise several strategies to communicate these changes effectively:

Blogs: Regular blog posts will be published in our monthly newsletter to educate and inform you about the reasons behind the price increases.

Posters: Informative posters will be displayed throughout the pub to ensure everyone is aware of the changes.

Conversations: I will personally engage in conversations with you, my valued customers, to explain the situation and address any concerns you might have.

Ensuring Continued Value

Despite the price increases, I am committed to providing value and maintaining our competitive edge. Here’s how:

Discounts and Bulk Buy Deals: Special discounts and bulk buy deals will be introduced to offer you better value for money as well as happy hours on certain days of the week.

Loyalty Scheme: A loyalty scheme is in the works to reward regular patrons and show appreciation for your continued support.

Exceptional Events: Our events will continue to be a major highlight, with 150% effort and an over-the-top mindset to create unique and memorable experiences.

Overcoming Challenges Together

The current economic climate poses numerous challenges, but with your support, we can overcome them together. Rising costs across the board are affecting everyone, and as a community-focused establishment, it’s crucial for us to adapt and thrive. Your feedback is vital, and I’m always open to conversations to understand your needs and how we can better serve you.

Long-Term Vision

My long-term goal is simple yet profound: to keep the doors of our pub open for as long as possible while fostering a strong sense of community. This place is more than just a business to me; it’s a haven where friendships are forged, and memories are made. Together, we can navigate these changes and continue to build a vibrant and inclusive community.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Here’s to many more incredible days and nights filled with a buzzing atmosphere, and memorable moments at our beloved pub.
